About Workflow: PrePress

Workflow: PrePress was created by Pariah S. Burke (me). It began as a service not only by me but also for me. As a creative professional space author, consultant, trainer, and freelance designer, I need to keep up with the latest news and information relevent to my career and clients.

But that information is published across hundreds of sites, by hundreds of writers, every week. I just don't have the time to visit every site and check for new articles every day. I built Workflow: PrePress to collect and categorize all that information for me. I could then get all the information I need in one place. In other words: Workflow: PrePress prevents the critical information I need from slipping through the cracks.

During the summer of 2008 it occurred to me that the rest of the creative professional community could also benefit from this type of unique service. So here it is! I put a nice frontend on Workflow: PrePress and opened it to the public.

This Site is an Aggregator

This site is an aggregator, though it is sometimes mistaken for a “scraper” site by those who don't fully understand the technology.

It is a common practice on the Web to write posts and link to other posts. This site is intended to do the same thing in a slightly different way. I deeply respect and appreciate the work of each person to whom I link and hope that I can help to spread the word about their great content (and maybe help them earn some ad revenue).

I hand pick the people and sites that I want to share with my readership. All posts link back to and give full credit to their authors. Each article is the original, with the same links as the original site. Any clicks through on an article go to the links that the original author put there. Any ad revenue from clicks within an article goes to the original author, not to me (clicks outside an article are part of my site, however). I do this because I want to share the talents of others and see that all people who provide value get support for doing so.

As an author myself, I understand the desire of any writer to retain control over his or her work, receive credit, and be paid for it. It is important to me that I do this in an open and ethical way. I find the idea that I would reference someone’s work and not give them due credit deeply upsetting. I would never welcome that done with my work and do not do that to other people.

If my linking back to you and showcasing your site with a sidebar of mine that has related content is not what you want, I will change it. Just send me an e-mail and I will remove links to your content from this site. (Please note that the e-mail must originate from the same domain name as the site.)

Advertising on this Site

Yes, the site is advertising supported. Even at a beta stage, traffic exploded to more than half a million unique visitors in its first 30 days. That's a lot of bandwidth that I have to pay for. So, if you find Workflow: PrePress useful, please help keep it alive by visiting the advertising sponsors. If you surf with ads blocked or turned off, well, how about a small donation to help cover my hosting and bandwidth costs?

If you're an advertiser looking to reach the best the and the brightest of the creative community, get in touch.
